On the Mutts

March 7th, 2007

Over the weekend I installed a new PC for my ma - a brand spanking new PC bought by me so she can type up the odd document here and there and check her email occasionally - crazy.

While there I took some photos of my dogs. Busta is my Staffordshire Bull Terrier, is a bit of a nutter and still think’s he’s a puppy. Holly is a Clumber Spaniel. She has not been well lately. She is epileptic and on medication which keeps her pretty much drugged up 24/7. She no longer wants to go for walks as the drugs she is on take their toll on her - so sad as she is the sweetest dog I know.

The pictures are dark and grainy as it was dark in the room and I hate using flash so had to select a high ISO setting.

Even with this they look amazing - I must be biased though, I love my dogs.

On Karaoke

March 1st, 2007

Got SA a pro Karaoke machine today - late birthday present. My suspicions have been confirmed. I can’t sing to save my life. One of those things that would be nice to be able to do, will learn to play the guitar someday though. Been saying that for years now. It’s on the list. That and go to the gym regularly. Of course I’ll have to renew my membership.

Wordpress Archives - Customising

February 28th, 2007

If anyone out there reads this (which I very much doubt) and knows anything about Wordpress - please help and I will love you forever :(

I want to customise my archives so that it lists every post in order of newest to oldest, displaying simply the title of that post with a link to the permalink (that actual post page).
I have posted on the support forums (where I seem to never get a reply), I have Googled it and come up with nada.

The only consolation is that a new series of Grand Designs started tonight, oh and we ate ribs and Sainsburys 3 for 2 caramel snacks. (I love ribs).

Edit: Sorted :) Googled the problem a little bit more and the problem is solved. Some genius (whom I now love eternally as promised) has the solution I need, used his code and I have a brand spanking new archives page.

Thanks to mr Devlounge for the code, I will be using him for further archive customisation in the form of categories.

Code I used is available here. It’s a .rtf cos Macs are great.

What it means is anyones guess, and I need to style it a bit more for what I want but it’s largely how I want it.

On Leaving Spannerworks

February 27th, 2007

On Wednesday I left Spannerworks after working for them as an SEO for around 10 months.

To celebrate getting rid of me, we went out to the bar across from the office. Beers were had, and then a few of us went out for some food and some more drinks.

Spam-o-rama

February 27th, 2007

What is it with spammers and scammers. You set up a blog (thank you Wordpress) and the spam comments come flooding in like there’s no tommorrow. I possibly wouldn’t mind so much if they actually made it interesting, tell a story, make a joke … I have one:

Knock Knock. Who’s there? Buy. Buy who? Buy cheap viagra online today. Make it a little interesting for fucks sake.

Instead all I seem to get is “Great site, check this out..” and then about 50 lines of links to casinos, porn and drug suppliers.

If any spammers are reading this, get your act together, make me laugh and I’ll post your comments. You have to work for the approve button, otherwise I will just keep hitting spam :)

Going Ape Optimisation // Design

February 14th, 2007

I have recently been given the opportunity to work on the redesign of the Cameroon Wildlife Aid Fund (CWAF) website, whilst implementing some optimisation onto the site in an attempt to boost much needed traffic and ultimately donations. After noticing the work the charity does on the Animal Planet series Going Ape, I contacted them offering my services.

For me this is exciting times. I love the series and am in awe of the work they do. I would love to go out and volunteer, and hope one day to do so, but in the meantime this is for me a great way I can offer my services by improving the design and structure of the site.

Mr Incredible - Birthday of Jo!

February 6th, 2007

This weekend, I decided to go public. I usually keep a low profile, being a superhero and everything, but this Saturday I could not miss. I headed out with a few police women, surgeon Jim [MD], a maid [aka birthday girl Jo!], some army guys, two robbers, a few school kids and the most beautiful baseball player you will ever meet!

The night was arranged for Jo’s birthday, a fancy dress evening with a uniform theme, to be held in a busy bar in the town center. I was relieved to hear it was a private function in the upstairs bar, but my relief at the prospect of privacy was soon quashed when we found out they had in fact double booked and had simply sectioned off a small area in the immensely busy, downstairs public bar. My plan to ‘leg-it’ upstairs as fast as I could would not do me any good.

The busy bar turned out to be not so bad, although my take on the uniform theme drew much unwanted attention. Being a super hero is no easy task!
Some funny looks came our way, but when you’re Mr Incredible that’s to be expected. With muscles the size I have, who will mess right?

We all got pissed, I made a twat of myself - textbook night - why change things eh?

an Ikea nightmare!

September 11th, 2006

Having just bought a house for the first time, we had the joy of trekking up to Ikea in Croydon to pur-chase massive amounts of cheap flat pack to populate our new home with nice looking furniture.

The thing I love (read: hate) about Ikea is the way you have to go through the entire maze every time you go. A maze of aisles with no way to get to the exit other than to go back or all the way to the end.

Anyways - we went through, selecting what we wanted, jotting down the location in the self-service wareouse with the little Ikea pencils and shopping list sheet.

So we get to the end, grab a trolley ready to load up, and about 80% of what we want is out of stock - fannytastic!

My girlfriend and I head back, to try and find alternatives, most also out of stock, so we then have to go more expensive, much more expensive, double the price infact! Wonder if they do this on purpose.

We later decide to go back as we need a sofa bed as we have a guest coming to stay. We call in to make sure they have some in stock, we check on the Internet and by phone - they do!

Off we trot, we get there, speak to an employee there, they have 3 left she tells us, which most likely means they have zilcho, as they have more than likely been taken off the shelf. So we are there, in the middle of the maze, and have no other choice but to follow it all the way back to go check. It was out. Back we go for an alternative.

The single sofa bed version, we will get two of those, so we write the numbers on out little pad with our little pencil, choose the colour we want and down we go. The bed is there, the mattress is there, the colour isn’t. Our second choice colour isn’t either. We pick up a blue version which is quite nice, run it to the till for a price check - Sixty Quid!! when the others range from 7.50 - 20 quid. I’m thinking again do they do this on purpose.

Funny thing is you know every other person in there is in the same boat. Heard people muttering “Have they ever heard of stock control”, and people complaining about the maze like layout.

Sod them we decide to grab the cheap ones and get some throws - only for the spare room!! :-)

We buy those and go back, buy some other furniture, (which we have now put together and is all wonky - cheers Ikea) and have some food. One thing you notice when you go to Ikea is the happy-go-lucky staff I do not think. I don’t think you could find a more miserable bunch of peeps if you tried. My girlfriend and I decided we will never go back.

it’s Dirty - stop it!

August 18th, 2006

Ever since I wrote the post ache to absolute buggery, I have been getting referrals from search engines for the term buggery. Stop coming to my site via that search term, it’s making me feel uneasy :) If you like the brown, find another town!

So, anyways - dirty people aside, my beast is set up, the DVD-RW drive was fine, it was just pressing against the front of tower’s drive bay. I have a Jeantech Phong 2 which has drive bay covers to hide the ugly offwhite drives - the DVD drive was pressed to tightly to the cover and was permanently ejecting the drive tray - schoolboy!

It is running fast as you like! Shit off a sh%&el - aka very fast. The monitor is top banana too! Viewsonic with 3ms (not sure what that mean’s but apparently it is very good!). The colours are so rich and vibrant. Pant wettingly good, so I am chuffed to bits!

very Ouch!

August 9th, 2006

Well Maplins stocked them, but the price gave me a hernia. Not only 15 of my precious squid on the largest CPU fan known to mankind, but 70 quid to replace the 20pin power supply I previously bought with the correct 24 pin. The box states silent, at that price it better frigging be silent, especially as it’s 50w less power than the 35 supply I bought before.

I set the beast up anyways, took all of 5 hours, turned her on and she purrrred like a kitten. Only trouble was the dvd rw tray opened and wouldn’t close. Messed about with the cables and the setting but no joy. Gonna attempt to put in my old CD Rom drive and exchange the faulty one. Wonderbra!
